Coalition Minister to Give Land to the Young
Giving Land
According to Planning Minister Nick Boles, young people who can’t afford to buy their own home should be given state owned plots of land so that they can build their own home on it.
The idea is still in the development stage of coalition policy and Mr Boles is giving it extra impetus by declaring that young Britons “want the opportunity to get on and help themselves”. House building is still at a very low level despite the fact that there’s been a rise in the last three months.
The coalition is very much aware that they need to assure the “generation rent” that they will, one day be able to buy or build and own their own home. The proposition that Boles is putting forward goes a little something like this: Instead of renting in the open market or applying for council housing, young people should be able to put themselves on the list for self-build and this list would run parallel with the council house waiting list.
Speaking about the moves to relax planning controls, Boles said: “A liberal planning policy is one in which you say to people, if you own a home and you want to do something reasonable to change it or extend it, you should be able to do so, without bureaucrats and politicians getting in the way, and that is something we have done.”
He added: “I think we might want to go even further … We should think about saying, if you can’t buy a home then you should be able to get a plot and to be able to build yourself a home if you want one – put yourself on the list for self-build.”
Are you currently looking to move out and get your own place? Perhaps you’re in the process of building your own home? Well, if you’re doing one of either of these things or even renting your own place, what do you think to the proposed plans?
If this was to go ahead then, there would be a lot of people out there who wouldn’t have much of an idea where to start when it comes to building your own home. There’s so many things to take into account. Things like floor screeding. Would you know why you need it or where to look to get help with it or to get someone in to do it for you.
Well, that’s where we come in handy. If you’re in the self-builder market then why not check out this page we have full of information as to how we can help you with your floor screeding needs.
